Minimal Iconicity in the Graphic Novel (Nadia Hafid)

Ching and Juroszek (1) define drawing as an interactive process of vision, imagination, and image representation. This working method can be applied in all imaging disciplines. The main difference between the different artistic techniques (2) is the different degrees of Iconicity of the images.
Nadia Hafid (3) , in her graphic novel Chacales, stands out for the minimalism of the iconography of the scenes and the low iconicity of her characters (4). Hafid creates a visual sequence featuring three individuals depicted with schematic forms and lacking facial features. The loneliness and frustrations of these three people leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
