At the beginning of the 21st century, video mappings (1) began to be projected in different countries, mostly on historic buildings. These early projections often featured fantastic images, with deconstructions and visual reconstructions of the façade elements. Large-scale video productions shown in a three-dimensional space, with a spectacle of light and shadow and a display of colours, became a form of visual art enjoyed by the pedestrians of the metropolis.

These productions are an example of Image Management and Interprofessional Work through the different audiovisual resources used. From the perspective of visual communication, they represent another way of understanding the Dimension of Time.

These large-scale productions soon evolved into micro-mappings (low-cost) and the use of video mapping as a teaching resource. For example, in 2011 in Turku (Finland), ceramic panels by Kim Simonsson (2) were inaugurated with the minimalism of video artist Timo Nyman (3). Since 2013, the Romanesque church of Sant Climent de Taüll (4) (Catalonia) has featured the colour of medieval art (5) through a video mapping with multi-projection.
