Photography, Painting and CGI (Johannes Vermeer, Marc Riboud & Final Fantasy)
Photography has been the intermediate step between realistic painting and "photographic" CGI. Realistic aesthetics, whatever the artistic technique, means displaying the highest levels of Iconicity of the elements represented in an image.
Johannes Vermeer (1) painted the social customs of his era. His works exemplify protophotography (2), employing geometric and optical techniques.
The reduction in the size of reportage cameras enabled easier movement between social events (3). In one of his photographs of the May 68 revolt in Paris, Marc Riboud (4) illustrated the understanding of feminism at that time.
The virtual camera has no geometric or optical limitations, nor does it imply that this has existed, as it is a numerical creation process. The image of Lightning from the Final Fantasy (5) video game series illustrates the conceptual and graphical changes in visual communication.
